| Represent our
members at UN-related events, for example: DPI-NGO Conference (UN Department of Informations annual event for Non-governmental Organisations) European Regional Conference of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (Dublin, March 2004) The conference was the first of a series to culminate in a global one at the UN in New York, July 2005. The global civil society partnership was a response to Kofi Annans recommendation in a report on the Prevention of Armed Conflict (June 2001). Each regional conference has produced an Action Agenda to feed in to an international one. The Dublin Action Agenda calls for a strengthening of interaction among CSOs, governments and the UN to improve coordination and develop complementary strategies for conflict prevention. It particularly encourages working with local community groups and expertise to create Early Warning Systems and Early Response mechanisms. EU/ Institute for Security Studies Seminar on The EU and the UN: Implementing Effective Multilateralism (Paris, March 2005) At this seminar, a range of governmental, academic, and other civil society participants including UNGA-Link discussed the UN Reform proposals of the Panyarachun Report, A More Secure World: Our Shared Responsibility. Convene meetings - to look forward or to report back Make policy recommendations for : UN Millennium Assembly and Forum on 'A UN for the 21st Century' Working towards a World Civil Society Forum (WCSF) linked with UN General Assembly Recommendation on Conflict Prevention accepted by the World Summit on the Information Society PrepCom 2 in 2003. Jointly represent:- UNGA-Link UK and UNA-UK on the Steering Committee for the World Civil Society Forum We also represent UNGA-Link on the management group of the Network for Peace. |
